Early life[]
Deanna Lee Duggar was born on July 8, 1962, in Springdale, Arkansas, to Jimmy Duggar and Mary Duggar. She was the couple's first child, and they went on to have one more child after her.
The Duggars did not have a lot of money, and in one of the books her brother Jim Bob wrote as an adult, he mentioned a time where their mother had to cook decorative rice because it was the only food in the house. Jim Bob often blames this on their father being unable to handle money. In the book Growing Up Duggar, which Jim Bob's four eldest daughters wrote, they mention that Jimmy was not a good "spiritual leader of the home", a statement they don't expand on.
